In the second activity of altering perception today, each group was assigned an object. We were asked to observe the object and attempt to change the context of the object by changing the dimensions of the object. The object when increased in scale, should not look different from what it is currently.
Scale: refers to size or extent of the object.
Context: environmental circumstances within which certain things exist or happen.
Reflections
In this activity I learnt about how the scale of an object is relevant to its context.
There were four things that we had to keep in mind while drawing the context.
We had to scale up the form.
Objects should justify the context.
Minimalistic manipulation of the object.
Do not change the shape to a great extent
Object chosen : Sharpener
I learnt that whenever I increased the size of the sharpener, I had to draw a suitable context for the same.
For example: the trees around the building and a table next to the chair.
This had to be done in order to make the viewers understand the function of that object and in order to set a context.
It was very clear to me by the end of the activity that both, the context and the size are correlated to each other and therefore I was able to achieve both manipulation of the size and setting of the context in the activity.
I also noticed the fact about how colours are of utmost importance while presenting our work as they give clarity and definition to our work and makes it easy for others to recognise the object and what we are trying to convey. It makes the communication between the two ends easier.
Learning Mantra of the Day :
Make the most out of your restrictions.
