LJL Illustrated Vector Map

The main aim of the project was to help us enhance our visual composition skills and the most important aspect of this project was exploration i.e. trying out different tools and approaches and appreciating the process more than the outcome.

CREATIVE PROCESS

I think that taking an iterative approach towards idea development throughout your creative process is something that is very essential in order to bring a desired outcome in a smooth flow.

Iterative approach is when you try, test, revise and execute (Process) a particular plan until you are satisfied with the outcome.

For example:

  • I first tried colouring the swimming pool in my map with solid blue colour and making lines over it in order to give it an organised and a simple look but when I finally tested my application, I found out that it did not match the vibe of my map.

  • I then revised my application and tried giving it a more realistic look by making a clipping mask out of the texture that a real swimming pool consists of and adding depth to the same which helped me achieve a lively vibe for the map as well, because there was a variation in the colour throughout which was very vibrant and very appealing to look at.

  • I finally decided to continue by executing the second attempt that I had made for the swimming pool.

Iterative Approach

One difference that I found out while using this approach is that even though I applied this approach in my simple day to day activities in a much similar way, I was never conscious about it while applying it and there was never a guarantee that my work would achieve that level of a desired outcome that would satisfy me. Using this approach consciously helped me rectify the exact issue and helped me be more flexible while working.

DIGITAL PLATFORM

Benefits and challenges of working on a digital platform:

CONCLUSION

  • One of the strengths that I discovered during this project was my patience while working and accepting my mistakes and failure during this project.

  • I realised that accepting my failures and being flexible during the entire process helped me perform better. For eg: at first the icons that I had created were not suitable at the given point of time, so I made another attempt that was up to my expectation.

  • I think it was not just putting a tick mark on the box for me but for my own happiness and the desire to achieve more in this field, which was only possible if I explored more and was open to take the feedback in the process.

KEY LEARNINGS

  • I learnt about implementing a plan or an idea through a step by step process.

  • One of the things that I discovered during this project is that some people may have likes or dislikes towards the work done by you, everybody will have a different opinion but the vibe that you set for your work remains the same for everybody and there is no variation in what you are trying to communicate.
